About this road
The Grand Mesa Scenic Byway (CO-65) is one of Colorado’s most beautiful—and RV-friendly—mountain drives. Climbing from the orchards and red rock canyons near Palisade to the forests and alpine lakes atop the Grand Mesa, the route gains nearly 6,000 feet in elevation while showcasing an incredible variety of scenery. Along the way you’ll find numerous overlooks, picnic areas, trailheads, campgrounds, and easy-access lakes that make this a rewarding drive even if you’re simply passing through.
The highway is fully paved and well maintained, making it suitable for most RVs and tow vehicles. Expect sustained mountain grades, plenty of curves, and cooler temperatures at elevations above 10,000 feet. Numerous pullouts provide opportunities to stop safely and take in the views, with Land’s End Overlook being one of the highlights. If you’re traveling between Grand Junction and Cedaredge, this scenic byway is well worth choosing over a faster route.
