I don’t know if this road is “risky,” but I can’t give it more than a 2 star rating. We only drove the 1.5 miles from highway 119 to State Park Road on our way to Reverend’s Ridge campground, but Gap Road goes much further than that and based on what we saw, it doesn’t improve for many more miles. The posted speed limit is 25 mph, but we drove between 5 and 10 mph the entire way while towing our 30′ Airstream. And still, when we arrived at our destination, one cupboard door had wiggled off its hinge and a drawer had bounced off its railing. Nothing that couldn’t be corrected in a few minutes time, but annoying nevertheless. Very, very bumpy. Fortunately, the road is at least wide enough that salty locals can speed around any laggardly RV drivers like us. 🙂

During our stay, I couldn’t believe how many people we saw plowing down this section of road at warp speed with RVs in tow. I don’t recommend doing that unless you really enjoy reattaching cupboards and drawers once you arrive at your destination.
