Boyd Lake State Park, located in Loveland, offers RV travelers easy access to one of the Front Range’s largest lakes. It’s a popular destination for kayaking, paddleboarding, swimming, fishing, and other lakeside recreation. Leashed dogs are welcome, while horses are not permitted.
The campground features 201 sites across four loops. Loop A is the largest, closest to the entrance, and contains most of the full-hookup sites. The remaining sites offer electric service. Traffic through Loop A follows a large one-way loop, making it longer to navigate than the other campground areas. The maximum stay is 14 days.
Colorado State Park entrance fees are charged separately from camping fees. Motorhomes receive a complimentary temporary pass for one accompanying tow vehicle for the duration of the stay, but the same policy does not apply in reverse for tow vehicles pulling travel trailers or fifth wheels.
Park Rangers and campground hosts maintain a visible presence throughout the campground, contributing to a well-managed and orderly atmosphere. The park also maintains an online Closures & Conditions page, making it easy to check for current restrictions or operational changes before arriving.
For RVers looking for convenient lakeside camping near Loveland, Boyd Lake State Park offers a straightforward campground with good access to outdoor recreation and easy trip planning.
1 Review on “Boyd Lake State Park”
When you think of a state park in Colorado, this probably isn’t it — no big pines, views of the mountains off in the distance often obscured by clouds or wildfire smoke. But there are paved roads and concrete pads, and electrical at all sites and full hookups at many. Water pressure is adequate. We did lose power for about 10 hours due to a short in wiring somewhere; it only affected part of the A Loop. Rangers came around to explain and apologize and offered a transfer to another loop with power (it was pretty hot, many chose to go for the A/C). Electronic updates were about 6 hours behind actual events and were on Instagram.
We did not use the restrooms or showers, but they seemed rather a long way away from many sites.
Reserve early! The park is often full. Except maybe this summer, when the Marina never opened because of contractor issues and then the lake closed to boating due to the astonishingly low water levels. Paddleboarding is still okay.
The area around the sites looks grassy but is really very patchy. Use caution if its wet because the clay will adhere to everything; we had to pry it off the dog’s feet. There are kind of a lot of weeds, especially on the gravel pads. Every site does have a picnic table and firepit, but the firepits are off limits at this time due to fire danger.
This sounds harsh but we really had a great stay. Very convenient to Loveland, so not far from Longmont, Fort Collins and Estes Park. Heavily used by large family groups who were respectful of their neighbors but it was a lot of fun to see them having fun. Lots of people who obviously adored their dogs and vice versa.
